After last week’s hospital visit I was sure I would see some progress at my next doctor’s appointment, but I am still not dilated or effaced. My doctor told me that some women never dilate until delivery day so I should not be discouraged. These babies are growing like weeds now. Since my appointment last week I gained two more pounds and I measured 42 weeks! How much more can my belly stretch!?
Usually my doctor will not give me an answer when I ask how much longer he thinks it will be, however, at this appointment he thought I would make it a couple of more weeks. Twin pregnancies reach full term sooner (37 weeks) and my body is getting lots of practice contracting. In fact, he prescribed me a medication that will stop contractions if it is not true labor. I am supposed to take it when contractions are coming every 5 minutes. Last night I had to take one. It stopped the contractions and helped me get some sleep. The doctor assured me that this medicine will not stop true labor. It is the same medication as the shot I got at the hospital in a pill form.
On Monday we will get another ultrasound to make sure the babies are still growing at the same rate and to check their amniotic fluid levels. That will most likely be the last ultrasound. I am learning lots of lessons in patience and perseverance as I reach the end of this pregnancy! I know that the best thing is for them to stay put for now, but it is really getting hard!
patience is the hardest lesson of all! cant wait to see them!
ReplyDeleteIt won't be long now.... two weeks is nothing when you've gone this long!
