13 Months Old

Wow! Last month went by so fast! The girls are 13 months old. They are both walking, and sometimes trying to run. That’s a lot of fun when they go in opposite directions! Right now their favorite things to do are: read books, play outside, point up at the sky when a plane flies by and say, “Ooo, Ooo”, look at photographs of family, and generally get into anything they are not supposed to be doing (e.g. emptying the trash can, putting things in the toilet, eating paper, eating acorns, emptying the refrigerator, etc.). 

Emma’s vocabulary seems to expand every day. A few words she says are diaper, dada, mama, doggie, Layla (one of our nieces, sounds like “Ya, Ya”), Ka (for Erika), Nana (banana) and Addi. Most of what she says is prompted by us asking her to say it, but some things she will say at appropriate times. She also tries to repeat other words we say. For example, she said “pickle” the other day at lunch. Emma loves to sing/play pat a cake, itsty bitsy spider, and wheels on the bus. Emma has also started doing this funny thing with her arms when she is dancing. It kind of looks like a square dance move. It’s hilarious! 

Addison is really into showing us where people’s noses and hair are located. She will follow a few sets of directions now such as “go get a book”. She still loves to dance. She’s got a few new moves since she prefers to stand instead of sit now. Addison has also developed a fascination with trying on shoes and socks. She will bring them to me to put them on her, and then she takes them off and tries on another pair. She also says a few of the same words Emma says, but does not usually repeat words when asked. We are finding that Addison is a bit more stubborn than her sister! 

The most fun we’ve had with them lately is showing them Christmas decorations. They “ooh and aw” every time we go to a store. Both of them love to turn on the tree lights and look at the lights in our neighborhood. Christmas is my favorite holiday, and I am so glad they love it too!
