Since last Thursday Emma has been sick with a pretty bad cold. I called the doctor on Friday just to confirm what I should be doing (use the humidifier, saline drops, suction out the gross stuff). Unfortunately, there is not much you can do for a baby when they have a virus. Over the weekend she completely stopped eating. She went 18 hours with no food. Sunday night Brian and I kept her in our bed propped up on the boppy because she was screaming so much. As you might guess, we took her straight to the doctor on Monday. We found out that she has Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Again, there is not much that can be done about a virus; and evidently this virus can get pretty serious in little ones. At times babies even need to be hospitalized for breathing treatments and dehydration. Thankfully Emma started to eat again yesterday! She is not eating much, but it is better than none at all. We have to keep her upright while she sleeps so last night she slept in her bouncy seat. This virus is highly contagious so the doctor thinks it is only a matter of time before Emma passes it to Addison. Addison has been coughing, sneezing, and sounding a little congested when she breathes. This is how it started with Emma, except Emma had a loss of appetite right away.

We found out that Addison has become quite the chubby baby! I knew she was a little tubbier than her sister, but the doctor confirmed that she weighs 11.4 pounds! Baby Emma only weighs 9.12 pounds. I do think that Emma has lost a little since she has been sick. After baths last night we put a sleeper outfit on Addison that fit last week and she could not straighten her legs. Brian said, “Oh well, it will be okay if she wears it for one night.” Don’t worry, I changed her clothes.
Brian was scheduled to go out of town today for work. He canceled his trip because he was worried about his babies, and he felt bad for me having to take care of two sick babies. He is such a good husband and father!
LOL, Jason has said the same exact thing Brian did re: an outfit being too small and it would be okay for the night... I immediately took action just as you did!
ReplyDeleteAre there any other symptoms Emma had? Adelyn has been sick since Thurs, but is still eating. I think it's just a cold, but now you have me worried... let me know if there was anything else! Daycare said she did great today, so hopefully she's okay!
I don't want you to worry, Roxy. Here is everything Emma started out with: chest congestion, coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, loss of appetite, and sleeping a lot. Her temperment stayed the same the first few days. It does not seem to affect Addison as much as Emma, so it may not be as severe for her. I think Emma just got a bad case.
ReplyDeletePoor Emma! Did she have a fever? I hope Addison doesn't get it as bad as Emma. Hopefully Emma is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Babies shouldn't be allowed to get sick...especially cute ones! We certainly hope everyone is feeling better soon...and remember to take care of yourself too. We're thinking about you...keep us posted.
