The Good News, The Bad News

Good news first: Blood work for Celiacs Disease and food allergies came back negative! We still have not talked to the pediatrician about the results. Our appointment is tomorrow. The tests did show some abnormally low levels of protein and albumin. This could be diet related or some other issue. So they do want us to see a gastro doc. That appointment is set up for later this month.

Addison was so funny with this sticker. She would not let us take it off her eye.

Emma really liked the blueberries that were not ripe yet.

VERY BAD NEWS: Addison broke left femur at my in-laws house this weekend. She is in a body cast as you can see from the photos. Poor baby tried to climb out of her crib during naptime on Saturday. Brian and I had the monitor so we heard a thump hit the floor. We both rushed upstairs to find Addison on the floor screaming. I picked her up and oddly enough we could not see any physical injury. We comforted her and laid down with her for about an hour. She would fall asleep and then wake up crying every 15 minutes or so. Finally, she looked up at me and said, “Mommy, knee.” So I tried to look at her knee and she screamed so I knew we had to take a trip to the emergency room. My in-laws live out in the country. The closest hospital was 20 minutes away. We waited about 45 minutes to see the doctor. Then they x-rayed, splinted her leg, and sent us to another hospital in Dothan, AL by ambulance. The initial prognosis was that surgery might be needed as well as traction to align the bone again. Thankfully, it was a clean break and we did not have to put Addison through surgery. However, they did have to put her to sleep to set the leg and put on the spica cast. Needless to say, it was scary for all involved. Emma has had more trouble than Addison. She cries a lot, and says things like, “Oh no, Addi, Addi!”
My mother in law is here this week helping. The most challenging parts so far are changing diapers, staying indoors most of the day, and entertaining Emma while Addison has to be immobile. The cast will be on for a 4-12 weeks, most likely the midpoint of that range. We should know more when we see the orthopedist next week.
The day we brought Addi home from hospital.

Health Part 2

It seems like Addison and Emma are getting over this horrendous stomach flu they’ve had for two weeks. Just when I thought I was out of the woods I got sick too. I’m starting to feel better today.  We took the girls back to the doctor yesterday. They are still concerned about their lack of growth over the past few months and some other issues they’ve had pretty much all their life. So this morning I had the pleasure of collecting a stool sample from each of them. Then we headed over to the lab so they could have lots of blood drawn. They were little troopers through it all. All the lab work will test for pretty much everything that could make them have these digestive problems, fatigue, irritability, and lack of weight gain. Some specific things they are looking for are Celiac disease, food allergies, and thyroid function. The good news is that if they find one of these things it should be easily treated with a change in diet or medication. That’s pretty much all that is going on around here. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Hopefully, when we get the results to these tests there will be an answer to their problems.
