3 Month Miracle

It finally happened! Everyone said one day I would wake up and think, “Oh my gosh! I slept through the babies crying!” Well as it turns out, we didn’t sleep through their cries they actually slept through the night! Last night Brian and I put them to bed at 7:30. Around 2:00 AM I woke up and nudged Brian, “The babies haven’t woke up yet!” He looked at the clock and said, “Really, I better go check on them.” He came back and was happy to report they were sleeping peacefully. They slept until 4:30 AM! We fed them together and they went back to sleep until 7:00AM! So everyone in the Hatcher family got a good night of uninterrupted sleep! I cannot remember the last time I slept that long. Even the last days of pregnancy I couldn’t sleep well. I just pray that this was not a fluke.

Today is the girls’ three month birthday! They are getting big and have changed a lot since birth. Their personalities are starting to show more. Emma is very social. She loves to “talk” to us, smile, and look at her sister. Addison is quieter, also loves to smile, but seems more content to just hang out with mom or dad. She seems to “talk” only when she has something important to say. Emma just jabbers all the time. Both girls are back to eating well, around 4.5-5 ounces at each feeding. They bat their hands at some of their toys, can grab some objects, and can hold their heads pretty steady while sitting up or on their tummy. Addison’s hair is out of control! She sports a Mohawk most days. Emma has a lot less hair. The new hair that’s coming in appears lighter than the hair they had at birth. Addison has really long eyelashes like her daddy. Emma’s are starting to fill out, but not as long as her sisters. Their eyes are still blue. They are lighter blue in the center and have a dark blue ring on the outside.

Emma

Emma has a new best friend. Bailey has always taken an interest in the girls. She is constantly checking on them and licking them. Chief has kept his distance until recently. The other day I had both girls on the floor. Chief and Bailey were right in the middle of us. Emma was staring at the dogs and Chief got right in her face and sniffed her. Emma smiled, and babbled something to him. This went on for a little while. Addison just stared at them from my lap. Ever since that day Chief has to check on Emma every day. And Emma just looks at him and gets a big smile on her face. It is really cute. Let’s just say Addison is not a dog lover yet. She turns her head from both dogs.

I forgot to mention that Brian tried to play a joke on me at 4:30 AM this morning. While we were feeding the girls I kept saying, “I can’t believe they slept this long!” He told me he put rice cereal in their nighttime bottles. I am not going to lie. I was not even mad because they slept for 9 hours. If my brain were a little sharper I would have remembered immediately that I was the one who made the bottles the for the night. My memory isn't the same since I was pregnant. I've heard people call this "mommy brain".

Getting Better: Now Go to Sleep Please!

I am happy to report that Emma and Addison are feeling much better. They both have a cough and slight congestion, but nothing even close to what they had last week. Emma is eating normal now, but Addison still isn’t eating quite as much as she did before she got sick. I know this is just the first of many colds, but I hope that they don’t get sick again for a very long time.

When babies get sick it seems to mess up their sleeping patterns. I thought we were down to only waking up once per night to eat. Boy was I wrong! This weekend Emma was up every two hours on Friday night, and the rest of the weekend they started waking up for two night feedings again. Just when I think I have things figured out or at least more manageable something changes. Brian wants to give them rice cereal. He thinks this will make them sleep longer. My pediatrician said they can’t have it until 4 months. I know that back when I was a baby it was common practice to give infants rice cereal before 4 months. Any moms reading this blog that have experience with this feel free to share your opinion. I am torn between desperately wanting more sleep and following the doctor’s recommendations. The girls will be 3 months old on Feb. 4.

Here is a picture of them from the day we brought them home. Emma is on the left, Addison is on the right with her arms up.

Nap time on Saturday. Addison on left, Emma on right. Notice they are not napping!

On another note, I finally printed pictures from the first two months of the girls’ life so I could start a baby book for each baby. I have always been able to tell the girls apart, but when I was separating pictures into a pile for Emma and a pile for Addison I had trouble with a couple of those newborn pics.! It is amazing how much they have changed since birth! They were so tiny! Look at how much hair they have lost.

Here are a few pics. from the ice/snow storm we had. Doesn't look too bad, but it also doesn't take much to cause problems in the south. Most of it was ice.
