What to Expect: Toddler Twins

I have read countless books about caring for infants and toddlers. I consider myself educated enough to understand child development. However, none of this knowledge has prepared me for the antics of my two lovely daughters! As I have mentioned we have been in the process of sleeping in “big girl” beds without their tents. I will say after 6 weeks of practice they are doing much better at night. Naps, on the other hand, are quite the challenge. (Let me just warn you first, this is a post about poop.)

Last week Emma and Addison decided it would be a good idea to spread poop all over the carpet, walls, and themselves during naptime. I am very careful about what they sleep in because they love to “be naked” and take their clothes off all the time. I put them in a onesie with a diaper and a pull-up with shorts at naptime and bedtime. Those little girls are persistent! Addison managed to reach her hand in her diaper and offer her sister a chance to play with the poop too. Words cannot express how mortified I was upon opening the door. I had to give them 3 baths, and make a run to BabiesRUs for new bedding.  As if it is not enough for this to happen once, they did it again when I put them down for bed that night. I caught them before it got too bad since I was paranoid they would do it again. All of this happened while Brian was out of town.  Since then I have started separating them at nap. They went 6 weeks with only taking a handful of naps.

Got to touch the eyeball before we throw it back.

Time for Emma to take a look.

Here is the one that Emma caught.

This weekend we did our best to tire them out so they would sleep easier. I think being overtired is just as bad. Here is a picture of what we ended up with last night. They were so exhausted they didn’t even wake up when we put their clothes back on and moved Emma to her bed.  Brian and I were cracking up. What else can you do in these situations!

Look at how much stuff they piled in the bed. Emma is actually sleeping in the pillowcase with a pillow. They took stuff off the walls and put it in their beds.

Addison's little bottom was on top of a book. Thank goodness no one peed!

Potty training is progressing slowly. Addison has mastered pooping in the potty for the past week! They will pee any time they sit but still have accidents if I let them wear big girl underwear. Emma will often cry and say, “I want my diapers!”
